Named after Swedish botanist Baron Klas von Astroemer, this flower is also known as the Peruvian or Inca Lily and the Ulster Mary.
Alstroemeria are composed of trumpet shaped flowers, 1½ to 2 inches across, on one or more laterals. Many blooms are grouped atop stems 24 - 36 inches long. This flower is occasionally marked with freckles or streaks of contrasting color on the inside of the petals.
There are two main varieties of Alstroemeria; the Butterfly, which has shorter stems and peduncles, and the Orchid, with long stems and peduncles. Esmeralda's Alstroemeria are grown year-round at Esmeralda Tenjo and are selected from top breeders.
